Lech Poznan take on the visitors Crvena Zvezda in the first leg of UEFA Champions League Qualification round of semifinals. The match will be played on Wednesday, August 6th at Stadion Poznan (Poznań).
Lech have reminded everyone several times recently of their proud history. In the spring, they managed to return to the top of the Ekstraklasa after a three-year gap — it was their 9th title. They edged out Raków by just one point in a dramatic title race that went down to the wire. Frederiksen’s men showed mental resilience throughout the season, especially in clutch matches. However, after the summer break, they got off to a rocky start — losing 1-2 to Legia in the Super Cup and suffering a shocking 1-4 home defeat to Cracovia. Still, they quickly recovered their form and made a strong statement in the Champions League qualifiers. They thrashed Breidablik 7-1 in Poznań, effectively settling the tie in the first leg. Even in the return leg in Iceland, they stayed focused, securing a 1-0 win thanks to a first-half goal by Ishak.

Crvena Zvezda have far more experience at this level. The Red-Whites were already a dominant force back in the Yugoslav era, famously winning the European Cup in the 1990s. While matching that glory today is out of reach, they remain unchallenged domestically. Last season, they racked up 28 wins and just two draws, storming to another SuperLiga title. Their attacking play and squad depth have remained unmatched in Serbia. Under Vladan Milojević, they began the new league campaign with commanding victories and carried that confidence into their Champions League qualifying campaign. In Gibraltar, they narrowly beat their opponents 1-0 thanks to a 30th-minute goal by Bruno Duarte. However, back home in Belgrade, they let loose — scoring five times, although they did surprisingly concede one early in the second half.
The only previous meeting between these two sides was a friendly back in 2010, where Lech won convincingly 3-1. There’s no clear favourite in this matchup. Backing both teams to score seems like a sensible betting option.
Prediction for the match: Both teams to score – yes.
