Lecce take on the visitors Fiorentina in the round 33 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Monday, April 20th at Stadio Via del Mare (Lecce).
Lecce do not set themselves more ambitious goals than simply staying in Serie A for another season. Last campaign, they achieved that objective with just 34 points, finishing in a “safe” 17th place — while in Spain, CD Leganés were relegated with 40 points. Their recent performances have been rather modest, with the team struggling to collect points consistently. At the same time, they have shown resilience in key matches, often managing to stay competitive even against stronger opponents. Right now, only Hellas Verona and Pisa SC look weaker, so even with a limited number of points, survival again seems realistic. On the other hand, the number of defeats remains high, and in their latest matches they have even struggled to score. Still, those opponents were strong and motivated sides like Atalanta BC and European contenders Bologna FC.

Fiorentina are playing under a very tight schedule. “La Viola” collected the same 65 points as SS Lazio last season, but due to Bologna’s cup triumph, they once again had to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Their recent form has improved, with the team gradually finding stability and confidence in domestic matches. They have been more disciplined defensively and effective in securing narrow victories. Their European journey began as early as the summer qualifiers against FC Polissya Zhytomyr, and they reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Crystal Palace — despite winning the second leg, the 0–3 defeat in London left little chance for a comeback. In Serie A, Stefano Pioli, who arrived in the summer, initially failed to win a single match, but after being replaced by Paolo Vanoli, results gradually improved, and by spring they climbed out of the relegation zone. They did not stop there, beating Verona 1–0 in April and repeating the same scoreline against Lazio in the following round. After these results, even a theoretical relegation scenario now seems highly unlikely.
In the last four matches, the teams have exchanged two wins each. At first glance, the hosts need the points more, while the visitors might seem less motivated. However, Fiorentina are currently in better form — it is reasonable to expect “La Viola” to secure another win.
Prediction for the match: Fiorentina to win.
