Larne take on the visitors RFS in the second leg of 1/8-finals of EUFA Champions League qualification. First leg result: 0-3. The match will be played on Wednesday, July 17th at Inver Park (Larne).
Larne have a long but not particularly illustrious history. Only recently have they achieved noteworthy accomplishments, at least by local standards. Initially, there were cup victories, and in the 2022/2023 season, the team became the national champion for the first time. They managed to defend this status in the last campaign. However, on the international stage, the representative from Northern Ireland achieved its best results when they debuted in 2021, reaching the third qualifying round and even defeating Paços de Ferreira. The following year, the club immediately eliminated St Joseph's – the representative from Gibraltar didn't score a single goal! Last summer, they lost to HJK (in extra time) and Ballkani, and now they started with a 0-3 loss in Riga.

RFS is too strong for their opponents. The "Lions" began, quite recently, as a local football academy. They rose to a new level after the disappearance of the local powerhouse, Skonto. In its place emerged a team that won the Virsliga in 2021. They returned to first place last year, and now they seem poised (and importantly, able) to remain the leaders of Latvian football without interruption. Riga is somewhere behind them, and the rest can be largely ignored. In European competitions, the Latvians are no longer newcomers. Since 2019, the Balts have consistently participated, and in the 2021/2022 season, they reached the group stage, even if it was the Conference League. Opening the scoring in the middle of the first half and finishing off the visitors from Northern Ireland after the break, they now have over a 90 percent guarantee of advancing to the next qualifying round.
The clubs met on the football field in Riga for the first time. Another victory for the Latvians is expected. However, they can play for enjoyment – bet on "total over 2.5 goals."
