KFUM Oslo take on the visitors Valerenga in the round 8 match of Norwegian Eliteserien. The match will be played on Monday, May 26th at KFUM Arena (Oslo).
KFUM are currently showing signs of the second-season syndrome. Kåffa, founded in an Oslo district in the late 1930s, spent much of their history in Norway's lower leagues — as recently as 15 years ago, they were stuck in the fourth tier. That changed after the 2023 campaign, when they earned promotion to the Eliteserien for the first time. The debut season exceeded expectations: they collected 37 points and nine wins, finishing a solid 8th and even reached the semi-finals of the Norwegian Cup. However, this year’s campaign has started poorly after the long winter break. They opened with a win over Sandefjord, but since then have picked up just a single point — a 0-0 draw with HamKam. Heading into this fixture, they sit second from bottom and firmly in the relegation zone. The lack of attacking threat and growing pressure have clearly affected their rhythm.

Vålerenga, as they are often called, have a proud history with five league titles and four national cups to their name. However, their last major honours came way back in 2005 (league) and 2008 (cup). Just two seasons ago, they suffered relegation after finishing bottom of the Eliteserien, but they dominated the OBOS-ligaen and secured immediate promotion by finishing top in 2023. This time around, the Oslo giants started well — defeating Viking at home and drawing away at Sarpsborg. But consistency has been elusive: they suffered multiple losses before finally beating Kristiansund 2-0 away in late April. In the most recent round, they scored early against HamKam but conceded midway through the first half and couldn’t find a winner.
These teams have met just once in an official match — a 2016 Norwegian Cup tie comfortably won by Vålerenga. In friendlies from 2011–2012, the more experienced side also had the upper hand. The visitors look slightly better overall and have more individual quality. A cautious but confident pick is Vålerenga to win with a “draw no bet” (DNB) option.
Prediction for the match: Valerenga to win with 0.0 handicap.
