Jamaica take on the visitors Trinidad and Tobago in a friendl y international. The match will be played on Tuesday, May 27th at Brentford Community Stadium (London).
Jamaica capitalized on the expansion of the FIFA World Cup back in the day, qualifying for the 1998 edition in France. While they’re often remembered for the heavy defeat to Argentina — immortalized in song — they actually did manage to win a group-stage match. Unfortunately, they’ve failed to build on that momentum, never qualifying for another World Cup since. Still, the team has achieved isolated successes in the region. They were runners-up at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in both 2015 and 2017, and reached the semi-finals in the most recent edition. In 2024, they also earned a bronze medal in the CONCACAF Nations League. World Cup qualifying resumes soon, and last year they beat both the Dominican Republic and Dominica. More recently, in March, they eliminated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Gold Cup qualification.

Trinidad and Tobago are still chasing a major breakthrough. The Soca Warriors also benefited from World Cup expansion, making their debut at the 2006 tournament in Germany. They earned a respectable 0-0 draw with Sweden but lost their other two group games and haven’t qualified for another World Cup since. Even in regional play, consistent success has been hard to come by. Though they’ve largely remained in Nations League A, they’ve failed to break through to the knockout rounds. Their last notable Gold Cup result was a third-place finish in 2000, and they haven’t consistently made it out of the group stage — or even qualified at times. They opened this current qualifying cycle with a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Grenada but bounced back with a dominant 7-1 win away to the Bahamas. In March, they knocked out Cuba in Gold Cup qualifying with back-to-back wins.
These teams met twice in Jamaica back in February. The hosts won the first match 1-0, while the second ended in a draw. These sides are relatively evenly matched, but with the home advantage, backing the Reggae Boyz to secure a narrow win looks like the right call.
Prediction for the match: Jamaica to win.
