Jagiellonia take on the visitors Ajax in the first leg of the final round of UEFA Europa League qualification. The match will be played on Thursday, August 22nd at Stadion Miejski (Bialystok).
Jagiellonia are gaining new experience. "Jaga" was founded back in 1920. However, throughout its long history, the club hasn't achieved much of significance. The rise began more recently – first, a Polish Cup victory in 2010, followed by a couple of runner-up finishes (2017 and 2018), and finally, a historic championship title. In addition to the main trophy, the club earned the right to debut in the central European competition. They passed the first hurdle, Panevėžys, with ease – a 4-0 win in Lithuania followed by a 3-1 victory at home. They also started the Ekstraklasa with wins. However, next up was the seasoned Bodø/Glimt, who won in Białystok and then, after conceding early at home, thrashed their guests 4-1.

Ajax, after last season's failure (even though van 't Schip did relatively well in the second half), only earned a spot in the Europa League. And they almost exited it right away! Although the new coach, Francesco Farioli, started well, securing victories in the Europa League and the Eredivisie. It all began with a late goal against Vojvodina. But after that 1-0 win, it seemed the Dutch side had gained momentum, winning in Serbia and Athens. Then, unexpectedly, they conceded at home to Panathinaikos and couldn't score. The result was a nerve-wracking penalty shootout with 34 attempts (Brobbey missed twice!), ultimately ending in a 13-12 win for the Dutch over the Greeks.
For the first time, the club from Białystok will host the giant from Amsterdam – not surprising, given their limited history in international competitions. The Dutch shouldn't repeat the mistake of underestimating their opponent as they did in the previous European match, which almost led to their exit. So, we’re betting on a win for the Amsterdam giant in Białystok, in yet another away game.
