Inter take on the visitors Torino in the round 1 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Monday, August 25th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (Milan).
Inter had previously spent several years under Simone Inzaghi, during which he achieved significant success — most notably winning Serie A a year ago. There were even hopes for an even greater triumph in 2024/2025. However, warning signs appeared when they lost the Supercoppa in winter. Still, the team was being spoken of as potential treble winners… until it all collapsed at the end. They were knocked out of the Coppa Italia semifinals (again by city rivals Milan), dropped points that handed the Scudetto to Napoli, and finally suffered a humiliating 0-5 defeat to PSG in a decisive clash. At the Club World Cup, Inter were already under Cristian Chivu, and after confidently winning their group, they fell 0-2 to Fluminense in the very first knockout round. Inter’s pre-season under Chivu has shown mixed results, but their squad remains one of the strongest in Italy. With Lautaro Martínez and Barella leading the way, they still look like title contenders, especially against weaker domestic opponents.

Torino have remained a mid-table club in Italian football. The Granata have a proud yet tragic history. They know they cannot currently dream of silverware or even compete with neighbors Juventus. Still, they do have ambitions of returning to European competition. Under Paolo Vanoli they finished only 11th with 44 points. Now, with new head coach Marco Baroni — who managed Lazio last season, finishing 7th with 65 points and missing out on Europe — the goal is clear: to fight at least for a place in the Conference League. The problem is that summer was more about losing stars (including first-choice goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić) rather than strengthening the squad. Torino’s start to the season has been unconvincing, as they continue to struggle in attack and lack consistency in defense. Without significant reinforcements, they risk staying stuck in the same mid-table zone again.
The Bulls last won against Inter back in January 2019. Since then, the Milan giants have claimed victory in all six encounters. The Nerazzurri are clearly stronger and should secure a comfortable win. Expect Inter to cover the -1 handicap.
Prediction for the match: Inter to win with -1.0 handicap.
