Lazio still have plenty to play for in the standings. The Biancocelesti were one of the biggest disappointments of last season — after finishing as runners-up, they slumped to 7th place. They barely edged out Fiorentina by a single point to secure a Europa League berth. There, they mostly fielded backups, yet still topped their group and managed to get past Viktoria Plzen. They also eliminated Napoli from the Coppa Italia before falling 0-2 to Inter. Now, Serie A remains their only focus, and with the table tight, they’re battling for a top-four finish — or trying to avoid dropping out of European qualification altogether. In their last match, they drew 1-1 with direct rivals Juventus.
Lazio have only managed one draw in their last five meetings with Inter. The Nerazzurri won all the others — including both this season in the league and Coppa Italia. If Inter are to have any chance of retaining the Scudetto, they must win every remaining match. They’ve handled Lazio well recently, and this looks like another solid win for the champions.
