Inter take on the visitors Fiorentina in the round 9 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Wednesday, October 29th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan).
Inter look good, but not perfect. The Nerazzurri went through a dramatic last season with a painful ending. It seemed that Simone Inzaghi, who led his team to the Scudetto in 2024, was on the verge of legendary status after coming close to a treble. But in the final month of the campaign, Napoli beat them in Serie A, Milan eliminated them in the Coppa Italia semifinals, and they were humiliated 0-5 by PSG in Inzaghi’s final match in the Champions League. Kivu’s start wasn’t ideal either, with an early exit from the Club World Cup. However, in this season’s Champions League, Inter began strongly with victories over Ajax and Slavia, before thrashing Union 3-0 last week. Domestically, they’ve mostly been consistent, winning regularly, though occasional setbacks have reminded fans of lingering vulnerabilities. After the international break, they managed to beat Roma, but in the last round fell 1-3 to Napoli, and deservedly so. Still, Inter remain among Italy’s elite, and their attack continues to create plenty of chances. Yet defensively they’ve shown some lapses, particularly against high-pressing opponents, which could be a concern in this matchup.

Fiorentina under Italiano twice reached the final of the Europa Conference League. However, they lost both times, and last summer Palladino took over as head coach. His European campaign didn’t go far, but in Serie A, the team managed to edge out Lazio on goal difference and finish sixth. Even so, another coaching change followed in the offseason. Under Pioli, Fiorentina are performing confidently in the Conference League — they beat Polissya in qualifying, won their group opener, and thrashed Rapid Vienna 3-0. But in Serie A, results have been far from stable, with several games slipping away late. In their last league match against Bologna, they were losing at home until the 74th minute, but two late penalties rescued a dramatic 2-2 draw. Fiorentina’s attack looks creative, yet their defense often collapses under pressure. Despite flashes of brilliance, they’ve struggled to find balance, especially away from home, where their results remain inconsistent.
In February, the Viola won 3-0 at home. However, the other four recent meetings — including one played just days later — all ended in victories for the Milan giants. The Nerazzurri are the stronger and more balanced side and should take control of this match. The smart pick is to back Inter to win comfortably, possibly with a (-1.5) handicap.
Prediction for the match: Inter to win with -1.5 handicap.
