Inter take on the visitors Cagliari in the round 32 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Saturday, April 12th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan).
Inter are somewhat forced to operate with “tied hands” due to the financial troubles of their Chinese ownership. But even under such constraints — which led to Antonio Conte’s departure — Simone Inzaghi has managed to deliver results, including winning the Scudetto last season. That title was secured in dominant fashion, with the team killing off any suspense by spring and finishing more than 20 points ahead. This time the gap is not as huge, and they’ve already lost the Supercoppa to Milan. They met Milan again last week, drawing the first leg of their Coppa Italia semifinal. Now they begin a new stage, the Champions League quarterfinals, and have already claimed a valuable 2-1 away win in Munich against Bayern. In Serie A, Inter have managed to hold on to top spot, but a 2-2 draw with Parma last weekend showed some signs of fatigue. Still, they remain the strongest side in the league on current form.

Cagliari are performing quite decently by their standards. The Islanders were relegated from Serie A in 2022. That setback brought Claudio Ranieri back to Sardinia, where he orchestrated a tough but ultimately successful return. Promotion came via the playoffs, and despite earning just 36 points in the top flight the following season, it was enough to survive — edging out Frosinone, who finished with 35. Ranieri retired again after that miracle escape (only to be called up later by Roma), and his successor, Davide Nicola, has been grinding out results in another relegation scrap. Importantly, they ended March with their first win in six rounds. They followed that up with a goalless draw against Empoli — the best of the current bottom three — which was a decent strategic result. Though lacking in firepower, they’ve become more organized defensively and are proving difficult to break down.
Inter have won 8 of the last 10 meetings, with the other two ending in draws. The champions are clearly the stronger side and simply cannot afford a second slip-up in a row in Serie A. Expect a home win with a -1.5 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: Inter to win with -1.5 handicap.
