Inter take on the visitors Atalanta in the round 29 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Saturday, March 14th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan).
Inter do not want to repeat last season’s mistakes. The Nerazzurri spent many years under the leadership of Simone Inzaghi. However, he left, to put it mildly, not on a high note. In the 2024/2025 season his team seriously planned to defend the scudetto and were fighting for two or three trophies until the very end. Recently Inter have continued to collect important points in Serie A and generally look confident in the title race. At the same time, some slip-ups in key matches show that the team still cannot fully relax in the battle for first place. On the domestic stage they lost to Milan both in the Super Cup and in the Coppa Italia, while in Serie A they allowed Napoli to overtake them from behind. And in the final match of that coach there was a 0–5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. In the new edition of Europe’s main tournament the Italians were eliminated much earlier, already in February, also suffering defeats against what was essentially a debutant, Bodø/Glimt. A month earlier the giant also immediately lost in the Super Cup. The Coppa Italia remains, where the black and blues reached the semifinals but drew the first match there against Como. And, most importantly, Serie A, where they are still the sole leaders, although a derby defeat to Milan a week ago allowed their rivals to reduce the gap.

Atalanta also lost their long-time successful coach in the summer, when Gian Piero Gasperini departed. Moreover, the club initially misjudged his successor — Ivan Jurić failed completely. Recently Atalanta have shown mixed form, combining bright performances with unexpected point losses. Their schedule has also been very demanding, which has clearly affected the stability of their results in domestic competitions. Now Palladini has to rebuild the team’s position, and he is coping fairly well. There is the Coppa Italia, where they also reached the semifinals and drew the first match in Rome against Lazio. There is also the Champions League, where they reached the playoffs and even eliminated Borussia Dortmund in dramatic fashion, crushing them 4–1 after losing 0–2 in Dortmund. However, that story now seems to be ending: this week Bayern won 6–1 in Italy. With such a schedule they have started stumbling again in Serie A as well: they lost away to Sassuolo and failed to win at home against Udinese, finishing 2–2.
La Dea last won this matchup back in 2018. All of the last nine meetings have gone to the Nerazzurri. It is unlikely that anything will suddenly change in this pairing — the pick is a victory for the Milan giant.
Prediction for the match: Inter to win.
