Hoffenheim take on the visitors Dynamo Kyiv in the round 2 match of UEFA Europa League group stage. The match will be played on Thursday, October 3rd at PreZero Arena (Sinsheim).
Hoffenheim are still considered outsiders in their homeland. The project doesn't have deep historical roots and is based largely on the enthusiasm of its founder, billionaire Dietmar Hopp. The club has had its moments of success, particularly under Julian Nagelsmann, where he began his coaching career. Since then, Hoffenheim hasn’t had a coach of similar caliber. However, with Pellegrino Matarazzo, they managed to finish in 7th place last season — a clear improvement, especially since it was enough to secure a spot in the Europa League group stage. By the time the season started, though, the team was far from its best form: they lost three straight Bundesliga matches in late August and September. In the first round of the Europa League, they were on the verge of losing to Midtjylland, trailing 0-1 until the 89th minute, when substitute Morstett scored an incredible goal to salvage a 1-1 draw. But then came their match against Werder Bremen, which ended in a 3-4 defeat.

Dynamo Kyiv received a harsh blow in the Italian capital. Under Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, the "White-Blues" have clearly improved and earned praise. In the spring, Shovkovskyi guided his team back to a familiar 2nd place in the Ukrainian league. After the summer break, during which Dynamo signed several promising players — both Ukrainian talents (like Bragaru, Rubchynskyi, and especially Pikhalyonok) and foreign signings (Ceballos and Guerreiro) — it seemed like the team was ready to set high goals, especially with Shakhtar Donetsk struggling. The Ukrainian side tried to make an impression on the international stage and performed well against their first opponent, Partizan. However, despite some positive moments, Dynamo stumbled against Rangers, conceding late goals in both legs and getting knocked out of the Champions League by Red Bull Salzburg, despite a commendable away draw. Against Lazio, though, they completely collapsed, particularly in the first half, where they conceded all three goals without offering any response.
Hoffenheim, under Nagelsmann, once played Shakhtar in the Champions League. But this will be their first encounter against Dynamo Kyiv. The Germans are still considered clear favorites, but there are enough questions surrounding their form. Therefore, the bet is on "over 2.5 total goals."
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
