They picked up a notable number of wins, including one against high-profile regional rivals FC Barcelona. But after also earning a draw against Real Madrid CF, they clearly took their foot off the gas, beginning to lose matches — albeit while still fighting hard and continuing to score. It could have ended in defeat against Rayo Vallecano as well, but there Viktor Tsyhankov found Cristhian Stuani with an assist, and the veteran rescued a draw.

Real Sociedad have once again managed to achieve success. “Txuri-Urdin” were excellent under Imanol Alguacil, winning the Copa del Rey, finishing fourth in La Liga, and reaching the Champions League knockout stages. Even though league consistency has fluctuated, they have still shown enough resilience in difficult fixtures to remain a respected and dangerous opponent. Naturally, the standout achievement was the cup triumph — deservedly defeating Atlético de Madrid in the final, even if it required penalties, to reclaim the trophy. By that point, they had also climbed from the danger zone in La Liga into the race for European qualification spots. But with the Copa clearly becoming the main focus in the spring, league performances suffered. They even lost to Sevilla FC, while drawing 2-2 with Real Betis.
For ten straight meetings, Girona simply could not beat this opponent. But in December, they finally managed a 2-1 away victory. The visitors no longer have anything meaningful to play for, and Girona must take advantage of that. Back the hosts to win here.
