Germany take on the visitors France in the UEFA Nations League match for the third place. The match will be played on Sunday, June 8th at MHPArena (Stuttgart).
Germany reached their recent peak in 2014, reclaiming the World Cup title in dominant fashion — including that unforgettable 7-1 demolition of Brazil in the semifinal. But since then, both under Joachim Löw and Hansi Flick, things steadily declined. With less than a year to go until the home Euro, Flick was sacked — an unprecedented move in German football — and Julian Nagelsmann was brought in. The young coach made his share of mistakes early on, but crucially, he learned from them and shaped a truly competitive side for the Euros, only falling to Spain in extra time. In the autumn, the squad had to be rebuilt again, with multiple 2014 champions retiring and ter Stegen injured. Still, Nagelsmann responded impressively, guiding the team to 14 points from six matches against Bosnia, Hungary, and notably the Netherlands. Germany also knocked out Italy in March after a dramatic two-legged battle — including a comeback draw after leading 3-0. Against Portugal in Munich, they led at halftime but crumbled in the second half, losing the semifinal despite a strong opening.

France nearly pulled off an incredible comeback. Les Bleus continue under Didier Deschamps, who has publicly announced that he’ll step down after the next World Cup. His World Cup track record is exceptional — a title in 2018 and one of the greatest finals ever in 2022, narrowly losing to Argentina on penalties. Their performances at the Euros, however, have been more uneven. Just a year ago, they reached the semifinals mostly through grit, relying on an own goal to eliminate Belgium and a penalty shootout to edge Portugal, before falling to Spain. In the Nations League, they stumbled early with a home loss to Italy and a goalless draw with Israel. But they bounced back to beat Italy away and top the group. March brought another dramatic turnaround — a 0-2 loss and 2-0 win over Croatia, before Maignan starred in another shootout win. In the semifinal against Spain, France looked headed for a humiliation at 0-4 but rallied to make it 4-5 — showing incredible character, though ultimately falling short. The team remains dangerous, but inconsistency continues to be their Achilles' heel.
Germany won both of their most recent meetings with France — friendly matches played in 2023 and 2024. Both teams have the talent and form to take this, making it a near coin flip. We’ll back Nagelsmann’s Germany with a 0 handicap (draw no bet).
Prediction for the match: Germany to win with 0.0 handicap.
