Genoa take on the visitors AS Roma in the round 28 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Sunday, March 8th at Stadio Luigi Ferraris (Genoa).
Genoa were relegated to Serie B not so long ago. They managed to return immediately, but in every season since then they have been involved in a difficult battle for survival. Coaches often become the victims of that struggle when they fail to pull the team out of prolonged slumps. For example, Alberto Gilardino, the man who led the club back to Serie A and secured its place there, was dismissed during the previous campaign. Recently the team has shown some signs of improvement, but stability in results is still lacking. They continue to fight for crucial points almost every round, as the competition in the lower part of the table remains very tight. Patrick Vieira, who initially replaced him successfully, was also dismissed after a difficult start to the 2025/2026 season. That decision had an effect as well: under Daniele De Rossi they remembered how to win again, although their rivals also keep collecting points. They even crushed Torino at the end of winter with a 3–0 scoreline. In the latest round, however, they quite predictably lost to the confidently leading Inter, failing to respond to the two goals scored by the Milan giants.

Roma consider Serie A their main priority. The Giallorossi, after the dismissal of Daniele De Rossi last season, only deepened their problems under Ivan Juric. As a result, even with Claudio Ranieri, despite all his experience and talent, they narrowly lost the race for 4th place to Juventus in the spring — once again missing the much-desired Champions League. In the current campaign their league performances have been somewhat mixed, but the team continues to remain close to the group of clubs fighting for European places. At the same time, their overall results have been solid enough to keep them firmly in the race for a top-four finish. The new coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, therefore started his work in the Europa League. There the Italians often used a rotated lineup but still finished among the leaders of the main round. However, this approach did not work in the Coppa Italia — they were eliminated fairly early at home by modest Torino. The real priority for the Wolves is Serie A, where with mixed results they are battling for a place in the top four. After a confident victory over Cremonese, they shared the points with Juventus, even though they had been leading 1–0 and later 3–1, allowing the opponent to equalize in the 93rd minute.
The Romans have won three of the last four meetings, with one draw. The Giallorossi are unlikely to drop points here. We believe they can secure an away victory against a not particularly motivated opponent.
Prediction for the match: AS Roma to win.
