Genk vs Antwerp Prediction 19 May 2026

Genk take on the visitors Antwerp in the round 39 match of Belgian Pro League. The match will be played on Tuesday, May 19th at Cegeka Arena (Genk).

Genk tried to remind everyone of their quality a year ago. Back then, they finished top — but only at the end of the regular phase of the domestic championship. Then came a collapse in the championship playoff group, and the leaders eventually slipped to third place in the final standings. This season, they performed fairly well in the Europa League — the Belgians started from the summer qualifiers, reached the playoffs, and only lost to Freiburg in March, despite even beating the Germans at home, with the heavy defeat in Germany proving decisive. But their cup run ended back in December, while in the domestic league they dropped into mid-table. That left them in the group of middling sides, where they have hardly looked convincing either. Genk have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, with too many matches lacking the intensity expected from a side of their ambitions. Even at home, where they are usually more assertive, performances have often felt labored rather than commanding. They finally managed to beat Westerlo, but then played out a goalless draw with Standard.

Antwerp are trying not to end the campaign in complete disappointment. The Great Old have a proud but complicated history. Not long ago, under Van Bommel, they made serious noise: winning the domestic double, adding the Super Cup, and reaching the Champions League league phase. Yet last spring they finished only fifth in the national championship — and then lost to modest Charleroi in the additional playoff, missing out even on a place in the Conference League. In 2025/2026, the only bright spot was arguably the cup, but after winning the first semi-final 1-0, they were crushed in the return leg. In the Pro League, meanwhile, they fell as low as 10th place. Still, once the points were halved, catching rivals became easier, and in April they even managed three consecutive wins. Antwerp’s recent form, however, suggests that brief revival was more of an exception than a genuine turnaround. Confidence appears fragile, especially away from home, where their attacking output has dried up significantly. But then came a disastrous 0-5 home defeat to Standard. After that, new defeats followed against Charleroi and Leuven, with the team failing to score in either match.

In the head-to-head meetings, Antwerp had a five-match unbeaten run against this opponent. However, in early April they lost at home 1-2. Іoth sides are in poor shape, but home advantage still matters — we’ll back the hosts.

Prediction for the match: Genk to win.
