Galatasaray take on the visitors Trabzonspor in the semifinal match of Turkish Super Cup. The match will be played on Monday, January 5th at Kalyon Stadyumu (Gaziantep).
Galatasaray are a historic domestic giant that has never been immune to downturns in form. After what was arguably a record-breaking search in terms of scope, Okan Buruk was appointed as head coach. He did not just bring the club he once played for back to the top — Galatasaray now dominate the domestic scene, having finished last season with a famous domestic double. At the moment, the Turkish side are also very close to reaching the Champions League play-offs, already having nine points to their name. At the same time, they are maintaining their usual high standards at home. There was a moment when it seemed they might be caught, but in the end they went into the break still holding a three-point cushion. They also managed to secure a win in the Cup, lifting the mood ahead of the break. In recent weeks Galatasaray have continued to deliver results with confidence, rarely allowing opponents to dictate the tempo. Their current form suggests a team that knows how to manage pressure and convert its superiority into points.

Trabzonspor are gradually improving. The Claret and Blues not so long ago became champions, reminding everyone why they are considered the most successful club outside Istanbul. However, last season was full of problems for a long time, and only after winter reinforcements and, most importantly, the arrival of yet another new coach, Tekke, did the team come back to life and even reach the cup final — where they eventually lost to the Lions. At the same time, they managed to carry this progress into the new season, having strengthened well in the summer. At one point it even seemed possible for them to jump into first place. But then they barely managed a draw with Beşiktaş and in the latest round suffered a defeat to Gençlerbirliği. Before that setback, they had also lost 0–1 to modest Alanyaspor in the Cup. Despite these stumbles, Trabzonspor have shown signs of growth in their overall performances and are no longer as fragile as before. Still, inconsistency in recent results makes it difficult for them to fully trust their momentum in big away matches.
The Blood and Gold have won five league head-to-head meetings, while the cup final ended in a convincing 3–0 victory. Only in January did the sides have to settle for a goalless draw. At the moment, the Lions look ready to prove once again that they are the stronger side. The recommendation here is to back Galatasaray to win this match.
Prediction for the match: Galatasaray to win.
