France take on the visitors Canada in a Friendly International match. The match will be played on Sunday, June 9th at Matmut Atlantique (Bordeaux).
Under Didier Deschamps, Les Bleus have reached finals three times in less than a decade. The 2018 World Cup victory stands out prominently among these achievements. Even in Qatar, they were only beaten in the final by Argentina in a penalty shootout. In contrast, their performances in the European Championships under Deschamps have been less impressive. In 2016, they heartbreakingly lost in extra time in the final of their home tournament. The next Euro was even more disappointing, as they fell short of the trophy. Naturally, they are now eager to make a significant impact. Last year's qualifiers saw them living up to their status as favorites, winning all their matches, including a commanding victory over the Netherlands. They only slipped up at the end, allowing Greece to secure a draw. Following that, in March, they were defeated by Germany, and even though they managed a 3-2 win against Chile, it was not an easy match. However, they managed to secure a confident victory over Luxembourg in June, finishing with an emphatic 3-0 scoreline.

Canada seeks to restore its reputation this summer. Maple Leafs are traditionally more recognized for their prowess in winter sports, particularly ice hockey, which makes sense for one of the northernmost countries. However, a strong generation of footballers has emerged, not just with Alphonso Davies but also Jonathan David and Cyle Larin, leading them to qualify for the World Cup. In Qatar, however, the near-novices struggled, losing all three matches and failing to progress. Notably, last year, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of both the traditional Gold Cup (on penalties to the United States) and the newly established Nations League (winning 2-1 in Jamaica but then losing 2-3 at home and being knocked out on away goals rule). The only redeeming factor was a confident 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, securing their place in the upcoming Copa America. Interestingly, new coach Jesse Marsch took his new squad to Europe, where he had previously coached clubs. Their initial outing in Rotterdam against the Netherlands was disappointing, ending in a 0-4 defeat.
Canada's only meeting with France was at the 1986 World Cup, where they lost 0-1 to the French. Les Bleus are significantly stronger than their opponent. Therefore, we don’t expect much of a contest and suggest a straightforward bet on a handicap of -2.0 goals for France.
Prediction for the match: France to win with -2.0 handicap.
