Fluminense have gained a dose of confidence from their new international run. The Warriors exploded onto the scene two seasons ago by lifting the Copa Libertadores. But they followed that high with a disappointing 13th-place finish in the 2024 Brasileirão and started this year by losing to Flamengo in the Carioca final. Nevertheless, Renato Gaúcho’s side rebounded impressively — they topped their Copa Sudamericana group, advanced smoothly in the domestic cup, and had a memorable run at the Club World Cup. There, they not only got out of their group but also eliminated Inter and Al Hilal before losing in the semifinals to Chelsea — ironically, with their former academy graduate João Pedro scoring twice. Upon returning to domestic action, however, their inconsistency resurfaced in a heavy loss to Cruzeiro. With just one win in their last five competitive fixtures, Fluminense’s form remains shaky despite flashes of quality.
The clubs have already faced each other three times in 2025 during the state championship. Flamengo claimed one victory and two draws — enough to secure the regional title. It’s hard to see Flamengo slipping again, especially in a derby like this. Back the Vultures to claim another win over their city rivals.
