Dynamo Kyiv take on the visitors Lazio in the round 1 match of UEFA Europa League group stage. The match will be played on Wednesday, September 25th at Volksparkstadion (Hamburg).
Dynamo Kyiv are on the road to recovery after a prolonged slump following the departure of the long-serving coach Mircea Lucescu. The experienced Mircea was replaced by Oleksandr Shovkovskiy, who, despite his legendary status as a goalkeeper, is embarking on his first full experience as a head coach. Shovkovskiy clearly prepared for the current season while finishing the last one, as did the club's management. Over the summer, they signed several new players, both domestic (Rubchynskyi, Bragaru, and Pikhaliyonok) and foreign (Guerrero and Ceballos). As a result, Dynamo made a powerful start in the Ukrainian Premier League, especially capitalizing on Shakhtar's slip-ups, and they fought hard in Champions League qualification. They thrashed Partizan and, with a bit of luck, overcame Rangers. However, in the decisive round, they fell short, losing to Red Bull Salzburg, though not without showing quality.

Lazio Has Yet to Impress. In 2023, the "Eagles" finished as runners-up in Serie A, one of the best results in their history. However, the following season did not go as planned, possibly due to their return to the Champions League, where the Italians reached the knockout stages. In Serie A, they started dropping points right from the first rounds, leading to Maurizio Sarri's dismissal. This change helped to some extent, as the team climbed to 7th place, securing a Europa League spot. Over the summer, Lazio appointed a new manager, Marco Baroni, and brought in players like Dia, Gigot, Nuno Tavares, and Castrovilli. However, they also lost key veterans, most notably Ciro Immobile. The current version of Lazio has yet to impress: they’ve already lost to Udinese and couldn’t secure a home win against an out-of-form AC Milan. In their most recent match, they lost away to Fiorentina.
In the 1999 Champions League, the "Eagles" won both matches. In 2018, in the Europa League, Dynamo managed a draw in Rome but lost at home. Dynamo Kyiv has historically struggled against Italian teams, but Lazio is not particularly impressive at the moment. A neutral bet on "Total Over 2.5 Goals" seems like a good option.
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
