Denmark take on the visitors Scotland in a World Cup 2026 qualification match. The match will be played on Friday, September 5th at Parken Stadium (Copenhagen).
Denmark are still remembered for their dramatic but ultimately successful run at Euro 2020. However, what followed was disappointment at the World Cup and a modest showing at last summer’s continental tournament. There they managed only three group-stage draws before being knocked out 0-2 by Germany in the round of 16. In the Nations League, with a coaching change in the middle, Denmark produced mixed results: they opened with two wins but then alternated between draws and defeats. Still, they managed to finish second, which sent them into the playoffs. Yet in March, after a narrow home win, Eriksen and company were thrashed 2-5 by the eventual winners of the competition. Victories in July’s friendlies against Northern Ireland (2-1) and Lithuania (5-0) hardly count as a benchmark given the level of opposition. Denmark, however, have lost only once in their last six competitive home fixtures, and their defensive structure remains one of the most disciplined in the region. The squad depth, led by Premier League regulars, suggests they should dominate against mid-tier rivals.

Scotland hope to prove they belong at a higher level. The “Tartan Army” have undoubtedly improved in recent years. They qualified for two consecutive Euros, reaching Germany directly. They also came close to the last World Cup but fell short in the playoffs against Ukraine. Revenge came in the Nations League, where Scotland topped their group and earned promotion to Division A. As debutants there, they managed a respectable third-place finish ahead of Poland. On the other hand, at the Euros under Steve Clarke, they picked up just one draw alongside two defeats in both of their appearances. In March, they lost their playoff to remain in the top Nations League division — after a narrow 0-1 away defeat, they crumbled 0-3 at home to Greece. Summer friendlies brought a mixed picture too: a 1-3 defeat to Iceland but also a comfortable 4-0 win against Liechtenstein. Scotland’s biggest issue remains inconsistency, as they tend to struggle when facing technically superior sides away from home. Still, their physical style and dangerous set pieces make them capable of catching opponents off guard.
Remarkably, none of the 13 matches between the sides have ended in a draw! The “Highlanders” won eight times, but Denmark have claimed victory in the other five. Brian Riemer’s men are clearly the stronger side, and home advantage will matter for both teams. On their own turf, Denmark should have enough quality to defeat Scotland.
Prediction for the match: Denmark to win.
