Czech Republic take on the visitors Montenegro in FIFA World Cup qualification match. The match will be played on Friday, June 6th at Doosan Arena (Plzen).
Czechia is aiming for the maximum in this qualifying campaign. The "Lokomotiva" featured at last year's Euros — a tournament they rarely miss. However, unlike previous editions, their performance was a letdown, largely due to self-inflicted defensive errors, which cost them a place even in the playoffs. The Nations League campaign in the autumn also started with a loss to familiar foes Georgia. But Ivan Hašek’s men turned things around impressively, overtaking Georgia, Albania, and Ukraine to finish top of their group. That winning momentum has carried into 2025. Granted, the opposition wasn’t elite — they beat the Faroe Islands 2-1 at home and Gibraltar 4-0 away. Still, the Czechs are showing discipline and clinical finishing regardless of the opposition. Monday’s clash against Croatia will be a real test of their credentials.

Montenegro remain the only ex-Yugoslav republic — excluding newly recognized Kosovo — whose national team has never qualified for a major tournament. Even North Macedonia made its debut at the Euros, while Jovetić — who’s neither getting younger nor fitter — continues to lead an underachieving side. Montenegro missed out on the last Euros after falling short against Serbia. Their Nations League campaign last autumn was even worse — they lost five straight matches to Iceland, Wales, and Turkey, only salvaging pride by beating the Turks 3-1 at home in the final round. In March, they managed back-to-back wins, but like the Czechs, the opposition was modest — Gibraltar and the Faroes, both at home. The defense still looks shaky under pressure, and the team struggles for consistency against technically sound opponents. Facing a more structured and confident Czech side could expose their flaws.
Montenegro has lost all five previous meetings against Czechia. Šik and company are clearly superior in quality, form, and home advantage. Back them to win with a -1 handicap.
Prediction for the match: Czechia to win with -1.0 handicap.
