Crystal Palace take on the visitors Manchester City in the final match of English FA Cup. The match will be played on Saturday, April 17th at Wembley Stadium (London).
Crystal Palace will celebrate their 120th anniversary in just a few months. In all that time, they’ve never won a major trophy and have only reached the FA Cup final twice. The second of those came in 2016, shortly before the long reign of Roy Hodgson began. Under him, Palace established themselves as a solid mid-table Premier League side — but ambitions gradually grew. The first attempt to move on from “Uncle Roy,” with Patrick Vieira, didn’t pan out. Then came Oliver Glasner, who joined partway through last season and guided the team to a top-10 finish. This campaign began terribly, but things stabilized after the winter. Palace returned to mid-table form, and, just as importantly, surged through the cup — their 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the semifinal was a statement.

Manchester City look to salvage their season with silverware. By their standards, City have had a disappointing campaign. The bar is incredibly high — in 2023 they finally lifted the Champions League trophy. In the Premier League, they remained dominant, and in a twist of irony, they lost last year’s FA Cup final to rivals Manchester United, who were the ones needing salvation. This time, it's De Bruyne and company in that position — and the Belgian is set to leave the club after this run. They scraped into the Champions League knockout phase, only to lose both legs to Real Madrid. Their domestic form also stuttered badly, even falling out of the European spots at one point. However, January signings — most notably Marmoush — and Guardiola’s adjustments have turned things around. They’ve re-established themselves among the top four, though a recent 0-0 draw with Southampton was a costly slip.
Palace haven’t beaten City since October 2021 but have earned two draws in their last four meetings. City’s recent draw may have come at the perfect time to sharpen their focus. Expect Guardiola’s side to lift the trophy with a win in regulation time.
Prediction for the match: Manchester City to win in full time.
