Cordoba once even reached La Liga, and not all that long ago either — the last time was in 2014. But after being immediately relegated, they dropped again a couple of years later into the third tier, and by the 2021/2022 season had even fallen as far as the fourth division. Still, the club climbed back up just as aggressively, and a year ago earned promotion back to the Segunda División. As newcomers, they then finished in a respectable 14th place. This season, they have largely maintained a similar level. Córdoba’s recent run suggests a team playing with freedom and confidence, rather than pressure, which can be a dangerous combination at this stage of the campaign. Their home form has also been noticeably sharper lately, with the squad clearly feeding off positive momentum and strong support from the stands. In fact, despite having little real motivation in the spring, the players suddenly delighted their fans with a winning streak — this after a prolonged slump throughout much of 2026. Last round, they also managed to beat Granada CF, albeit only by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.

Albacete have been memorable here — but not exactly for success. “The Mechanical Cheese” are difficult to describe as a truly successful project. Across nearly 90 years of history, they spent only about half a decade in La Liga during the 1990s, with one brief return between 2003 and 2005. Since then, they have actually spent more seasons drifting around the third tier, from which they most recently climbed back in 2022. They even reached the Segunda promotion playoffs immediately after that, but subsequent campaigns were more modest: 13th place, then 10th last season. Albacete’s recent performances have at least shown a bit more resilience, especially in close matches where they have managed to grind out results instead of collapsing. However, their league consistency remains questionable, particularly away from home, where they have often struggled to control games. This season, they made headlines — but mainly in the cup. There, they knocked out teams including RC Celta de Vigo and Real Madrid CF, ruining Álvaro Arbeloa’s debut, and even scored against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals before losing 1-2. Unsurprisingly, league form suffered as a result, especially in April when there was no longer much to fight for. On the other hand, they did manage to beat both FC Andorra and Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa recently, even if only by a one-goal margin.
In the last four meetings, “The Caliphs” have recorded two wins, while the other two ended in draws. Although the visitors have improved somewhat, they still look clearly weaker than an opponent riding a wave of confidence. Back the home side to take the win here.
