Club Brugge take on the visitors Fiorentina in the second leg of UEFA Conference League semifinals. First leg result: 2-3. The match will be played on Wednesday, April 8th at Jan Breydel Stadion (Brugge).
Club Brugge managed to get the most out of the coaching change. Ronnie Deila didn't exactly fail, but he couldn't return the ambitious club to the leading positions in Belgian football. However, under Niky Hayen, they managed to catch up with both Anderlecht and Royal Union towards the end. Moreover, in the Conference League, they coped with PAOK after a solid comeback against Molde, overcoming a minimal defeat in Norway. While at home, the team limited themselves to a minimal 1-0 victory, away in Thessaloniki, everything ended 2-0 in favor of the visitors. In Florence, they managed to equalize the score twice, but eventually conceded in the 90+ minute, losing 2-3.

Fiorentina will try to achieve success at least in this tournament. The Purple Ones are attempting, in this third season under Vincenzo Italiano as head coach, to achieve something significant. However, it became clear by the end of the previous month that there would be no good results in other tournaments. In the semi-finals of the Italian Cup, after a 1-0 defeat in Florence, they suffered a 1-4 defeat to Atalanta. Simultaneously, the Viola are showing fairly mediocre results in Serie A. If in the first half of the season they were contenders for the 4th place, since winter, the team has been performing worse at home, and their chances even for the 7th position are not very high. So, the next season will have to be played without distractions from European competitions. There is only one chance left to perform better in the Conference League than in 2023 and win the trophy. However, things are not going smoothly in the playoffs. Against Maccabi (Haifa), a minimal 4-3 victory in the nominally away match helped. Then came Viktoria (Plzen), and after a couple of goalless draws, they only managed to pressure the Czechs in extra time of the home match, scoring twice. They managed to win against the Belgians, but with difficulty, 3-2.
Last Thursday, the clubs played their first head-to-head match in their entire history. Bookmakers give a slight advantage to the Belgians, who are playing at home. However, the Italians are clearly determined to reach the final, so we bet on total over 2.5 goals scored.
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
