Chelsea take on the visitors PSG in the final of FIFA Club World Cup. The match will be played on Sunday, July 13th at MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ).
Chelsea have a chance to turn a good season into a triumphant one. The Blues have finally achieved long-awaited progress. What Pochettino and his predecessors failed to do, Enzo Maresca accomplished: he brought his new squad back into the Premier League top four and added a UEFA Conference League title. Then, at the FIFA Club World Cup — bolstered by new signings — they went on to win the tournament. Ironically, in the semi-finals, they beat Fluminense thanks to a brace from João Pedro, just signed from Brighton — the Brazilian scored twice against his former club. However, not everything was smooth for the English side during their U.S. campaign. They suffered a disappointing 1-3 defeat to Flamengo and let victory slip against Benfica, conceding a stoppage-time penalty after a long weather delay. Still, they bounced back to thrash the Portuguese side and handled other opponents with confidence and maturity. Chelsea’s attacking trio looked sharper with every game, while Maresca's tactical structure limited opponents’ chances from open play.

PSG had a rough start in the Champions League last autumn after Kylian Mbappé’s departure — at one point, qualification from the group looked in doubt. But eventually, with the help of January signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, they advanced confidently to the final — where they thrashed Inter 5-0, having only struggled against Liverpool, whom they edged past in a penalty shootout. Despite winning their first-ever Champions League, the team maintained full focus and intensity. Their only defeat in the Club World Cup came early on — a 0-1 loss to Botafogo — and it was also the only time they conceded in the entire tournament. All other matches were clean-sheet wins, including a 2-0 victory over Bayern in the quarter-finals and a dominant 4-0 display against Real Madrid (featuring Mbappé) in the semis. Luis Enrique’s side looked organized, relentless, and extremely clinical in front of goal, with Dembele’s resurgence a key highlight.
In the unofficial Champions Cup, both encounters ended in draws. In UEFA competition, PSG used to trail Chelsea historically, but since back-to-back wins in 2016, they’ve recorded three victories and just two defeats in the last eight meetings. It’s hard to see what the English side can do to seriously trouble PSG. Back the Parisians to win in regular time.
Prediction for the match: PSG to win.
