Chelsea take on Manchester City in the final match of English FA Cup. The match will be played on Saturday, May 16th at Wembley Stadium (London).
Chelsea had an excellent previous season, finally climbing back into the Premier League’s top four, while also adding the fairly expected triumph in the relatively modest Conference League. In the summer, they added yet another new trophy to their collection by winning the Club World Cup. But the architect of those successes, Enzo Maresca, quickly fell out with the board and was dismissed. He was replaced by Liam Rosenior, but he entered club history in a way he surely never intended: no one lasted less time in the managerial role. Chelsea’s overall form coming into this match remains deeply inconsistent, with confidence clearly fragile after a string of disappointing domestic results. Even at Stamford Bridge, performances have lacked the control and authority expected from a club of this level. During his short spell, Liam was eliminated from both the EFL Cup and the Champions League, while in the Premier League Chelsea suffered six defeats in seven rounds, including five in a row. As soon as the manager was removed, they managed to beat Leeds — in the cup, of all competitions. But then came a defeat to Nottingham Forest, followed by a draw against the currently inconsistent Liverpool.

Manchester City will find it difficult to focus solely on this match. The Citizens had a disappointing previous season, which, incidentally, ended with defeat in a cup final. In the Premier League, the favourites at least managed to finish 3rd, though not without difficulty, and they also exited the Champions League early. Not everything has gone according to plan this season either. For example, they collapsed against Real Madrid in March, losing both matches without the slightest real chance. City’s recent schedule has also been relentless, and physical freshness could become a factor even for a squad used to competing on multiple fronts. Still, their ability to respond after setbacks has once again underlined the winning mentality that defines this team. However, they then beat Arsenal first in the EFL Cup final, claiming their first trophy after a fairly long drought, and later repeated that success in the Premier League, drawing level on points with the Gunners, who had stumbled in the spring. Soon after, though, they dropped points themselves, barely rescuing a draw against Everton. And this week, they also had to play a rescheduled fixture against Crystal Palace.
The last time Chelsea beat City was five years ago — in a final, namely the Champions League final. In the last five meetings, the Blues have managed just one draw while losing all the others. Prediction for Chelsea vs Manchester City: it is hard to find much intrigue here. Haaland and company should win another trophy, and do it in regular time.
Prediction for the match: Manchester City to win.
