Celta Vigo take on the visitors Levante in the round 36 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Tuesday, May 12th at Estadio El Sadar (Pamplona).
Celta Vigo can consider this season a successful one regardless of how it finishes. “The Galicians” absolutely hit the jackpot with the appointment of Claudio Giráldez. The previously little-known coach — especially compared to his predecessor Rafael Benítez, who failed at the club — initially arrived at Balaídos with a fairly standard mission: simply avoid relegation to the Segunda División. After accomplishing that in 2024, he guided the team to seventh place a year later, bringing Celta back to the UEFA Europa League, where they were stopped only by SC Freiburg in the quarterfinals. Celta have looked especially confident at home lately, where their attacking football has regularly caused problems even for stronger opponents. Their recent results also show that the team have learned how to balance European commitments with domestic competition much better than many expected at the start of the campaign. Many expected them to decline in La Liga because of that European run, but after a difficult opening stretch they actually managed to climb one position higher in the standings. Spring did bring plenty of defeats, though. On the other hand, they beat both of their latest opponents — not only Elche CF, but even Atlético de Madrid.

Levante have never been rated particularly highly, yet they spent many years in La Liga and even managed to reach European competitions once. After another relegation to the Segunda División, they became stuck there for a while, but in the 2024/2025 campaign they finally collected enough points to earn promotion back to the top flight. Still, it immediately became obvious that life in La Liga would be extremely difficult for them. Levante’s recent performances, however, have shown far more energy and belief, especially in matches against direct rivals near the bottom of the table. The team have also started scoring much more consistently compared to the first half of the season, which has given them genuine hope in the survival battle. Luís Castro, who arrived during the second half of the season when the situation already looked nearly hopeless, clearly disagreed with the early “burial” of the newcomer. Since the end of February, his new side have mostly been winning, suffering defeat only away to Real Sociedad. The only other setback came against Villarreal CF, who crushed them 5-1. But against CA Osasuna they bounced back again, winning a thrilling 3-2 shootout to preserve and even improve their survival chances.
The Galicians are unbeaten in the last five meetings between the clubs, winning three of them, including an away victory back in November. The stronger team, still carrying real motivation in the standings, are playing at home. Back Celta to take the victory here.
