Celta Vigo take on the visitors Barcelona in the round 12 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Sunday, November 9th at Estadio de Balaídos (Vigo).
Celta have in some ways become a victim of last season’s success. The Galicians have often repeated the same scenario year after year — constantly fighting for survival and usually managing to stay up only after changing their coach. That was the case again in 2023/2024, when Benítez was replaced by Giráldez, who successfully lifted the team out of the relegation zone. In the following campaign, Claudio and his men collected an impressive 55 points to finish seventh, earning a spot in the Europa League. Starting with a defeat in Stuttgart, they then managed to beat PAOK, Nice, and most recently Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday. However, in La Liga they’ve suffered a few losses and drawn as many as seven times — all with a 1-1 scoreline. Only later did they grab a 3-2 win away at Osasuna, followed by a 2-0 victory in the cup, and another three points against Levante. Celta’s main issue this season has been inconsistency — they often control possession but struggle to turn it into clear chances. Still, their resilience and recent unbeaten run suggest the team is regaining confidence and finding rhythm at the right time.

Barcelona have alternated between strong and disappointing years in recent times. Xavi had returned them to a title-winning level, but in 2023/2024 they failed to claim a single trophy — leading to his departure. Flick took over, and in his debut season in Spain, he guided the team to victories in all domestic competitions. They began the new campaign solidly, though questions grew over discipline and concentration. Then came a major dip in form — losing at home to PSG in the Champions League, falling heavily 1-4 to Sevilla in La Liga, and then being outplayed by Real Madrid in El Clásico. They did bounce back with a thrashing of newly-promoted Elche, but midweek they could only draw with Club Brugge. Barcelona’s recent form has been erratic, and their defensive vulnerabilities have cost them points. Nevertheless, their attacking quality remains high, and they tend to raise their level against mid-table opposition like Celta.
In their last four meetings with the “more than a club” side, Iago Aspas and company have managed one draw and three defeats. For the second time this week, the Catalans are unlikely to slip up. The bet is on Barcelona not to lose.
Prediction for the match: Barcelona not to lose (X2).
