Brazil take on Colombia in the round 3 match of CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 group stage. The match will be played on Wednesday, July 3rd at Levi's Stadium (Santa Clara, CA).
Brazil arrived at the Copa América as one of the main contenders for victory. In two rounds of the group stage, the team has accumulated four points. They started with a sensational draw. The Brazilians took 19 shots on goal and had nine corners against Costa Rica, but ultimately failed to score (0-0). However, everything that didn't go in then found the net against Paraguay. The Seleção confidently thrashed their opponents but also conceded a goal themselves (4-1). Brazil's defense cannot be called perfect. In preparation for the Copa, the team played several friendly matches, conceding goals in the last three: victories over Mexico (3-2), draws with the USA (1-1), and Spain (3-3).

After two rounds of the group stage, the team has secured a place in the playoffs. First, the "Cafeteros" defeated Paraguay (2-1), and then they beat Costa Rica by a wide margin (3-0). The last time the team lost was in June 2021, more than three years ago. The victory over the Costa Ricans was Colombia's tenth in a row. They ended 2023 with victories over Mexico (3-2) and Venezuela (1-0), and in 2024, they triumphed over Spain (1-0) and Romania (3-2). Right before the Copa, they warmed up against the USA (5-1) and Bolivia (3-0). The match against Brazil will decide the fate of the first place in the group. I don't know if the Colombians will be able to extend their unbeaten streak, but I believe they will score at least one goal.
Bookmakers consider Brazil the favorites, which is logical on one hand, as unlike their opponents, the Seleção have not yet secured their place in the playoffs. But on the other hand, the Colombians have been looking fantastic in this tournament and, generally, have been in great form recently. I believe the "Cafeteros" can definitely find the back of the net. Yes, Colombia already has their ticket to the playoffs secured, but it's unlikely they don't care whether they advance from first or second place. The Brazilians, in their previous match, even conceded a goal to the modest Paraguay, so I wouldn't rule out a goal against the favorites in the upcoming match. In their last head-to-head meeting, which took place during the qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the Colombians not only scored against the Seleção but also won (2-1). I expect at least one goal from the "Cafeteros" now as well.
Prediction for the match: Colombia to score – yes.
