Borussia Dortmund take on the visitors RB Leipzig in the round 6 match of German Bundesliga. The match will be played on Saturday, October 4th at Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund).
Borussia Dortmund have suffered a series of frustrating setbacks in recent years. In 2023 they let the long-awaited Bundesliga title slip away on the final matchday, and a season later they fell to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. This summer they once again lost to the Spaniards, this time in the Club World Cup playoffs. Before that came a difficult campaign, with the failed experiment under Nuri Sahin, but Nico Kovac managed to steady the ship and secure a fourth-place Bundesliga finish. The new season began after a cup win over Rot-Weiss, followed by a disappointing draw with St. Pauli, where they conceded twice late on. The same scenario repeated in Turin against Juventus. In the next Champions League round against Athletic, however, they bounced back emphatically with a 4-1 win. Overall, Dortmund have collected enough victories, and last weekend they beat Mainz 2-0. Kovac’s team is building momentum, with the attack starting to click again — Malen, Adeyemi, and Brandt have all contributed recently. Still, defensive lapses and loss of focus in closing stages remain their main weakness against top opponents.

RB Leipzig are producing surprisingly good results. The Red Bulls constantly develop and sell players, and that took its toll last season when, after consistent years in Europe, they quickly lost hope of advancing from their Champions League group. Even in the Bundesliga, despite several coaching changes, they finished only seventh — and because Stuttgart won the DFB-Pokal, Leipzig missed out on the Conference League as well. Moreover, the summer brought another major clear-out: Šeško and Simons moved to England, while Blaswich, Poulsen, André Silva, and Geertruida also departed; Openda and Elmas are currently out on loan in Italy. However, the club reinvested smartly, bringing in Bakayoko, Maksimović, Rômulo Cardozo, and Harder. Most importantly, new coach Ole Werner has quickly stabilized the team — after an opening 0-6 disaster, Leipzig responded with a string of wins. They also beat Wolfsburg, though narrowly, 1-0. Leipzig’s pressing structure and quick transitions are again among the best in the league, and their young squad looks hungry. Their defensive solidity under Werner has improved, conceding just twice in the last four matches.
The Red Bulls have won seven of the last nine meetings, losing only twice. However, last season the sides traded home victories. The hosts are especially strong at Signal Iduna Park — the bet is on a Dortmund win.
Prediction for the match: Borussia Dortmund to win.
