Borussia Mönchengladbach experienced a boost after the coaching change. The Foals have a rich history and relatively recent successes. Nevertheless, despite finishing last season in 10th place, Seoane kept his job. He was dismissed only after the winter break, when the team could not manage a single win. Polanski was appointed as interim head coach at first, but after four consecutive victories he was confirmed on a permanent basis. They did manage to get past struggling Mainz, but in the latest round they even lost at home to inconsistent Wolfsburg, and not by a narrow margin, but 1–3. Overall, Gladbach’s recent form has become more uneven after the initial surge. Away from home in particular, they still struggle to translate periods of good play into consistent results.
