Bologna take on the visitors Udinese in the round 26 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Monday, February 23rd at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara (Bologna).
Bologna, after many years as a typical mid-table side, began to surprise back in the season before last, when under Thiago Motta they finished fifth in Serie A. Without the Brazilian, who later failed at Juventus, they had an unsuccessful Champions League debut, did not reach the play-offs, and slipped back into the middle of the Serie A table, although they did manage to win the cup at the end of that campaign. That success sent the Italians into the Europa League, where they reached the play-offs and managed a narrow but important win over Brann. They also knocked Inter out of the Super Cup, although they then lost the final to Napoli. In the domestic cup, the trophy holders were eliminated by Lazio at the quarter-final stage. In Serie A, Italiano’s team started very solidly, but by winter completely lost their rhythm and began to lose far too often. Only in the previous round against Torino did they finally manage to return to winning ways. Even so, recent league form remains unstable, with too many setbacks in a short period. At home, Bologna have also struggled to dominate matches as convincingly as earlier in the season.

Udinese look quite decent overall. The Zebras are nowhere near repeating their peak years with Di Natale leading the line, when they even played in the Champions League. Still, they are now a fairly solid mid-table side that stays at a comfortable distance from the relegation zone, having finished last spring with 44 points in 12th place. This season, Runjaic’s team are holding their level reasonably well and at times even raising it, winning in Serie A almost as often as they lose. The 1–0 victory over Roma says a lot, although they then somehow managed to lose to Lecce. In the previous round, they even suffered a home defeat to Sassuolo, with the final score ending 1–2. Such inconsistency makes it hard for Udinese to build momentum. Away from home, their results have also been mixed, alternating solid performances with unexpected losses.
The teams have drawn three times in a row, with scores of either 1–1 or 0–0. However, in November the Rossoblù produced an emphatic away win in Friuli, where everything ended 3–0 in their favor. This match comes at a very good moment for the Rossoblù. The bet is on Bologna to manage a home win against the visitors.
Prediction for the match: Bologna to win.
