Bologna take on the visitors AC Milan in the round 9 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Saturday, October 26th at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara (Bologna).
Bologna couldn’t avoid the typical story of an underdog. The "Rossoblù" are a respected club with a long history in Serie A and a dedicated fan base. However, for a long time, no one expected them to make it into European competition. Then, last season, this archetypal mid-table team produced unexpectedly strong results. They secured a 5th place finish, leaving behind a determined and motivated Roma. According to UEFA’s new regulations, that position was enough to grant Bologna a debut spot in the Champions League. They attempted to reinforce the squad over the summer, but Thiago Motta departed to manage Juventus, and both Calafiori and Zirkzee were sold to top English clubs. With Vincenzo Italiano at the helm, the red-and-blues mainly played to draws in Serie A, including a 2-2 result against Genoa in the last round. In the Champions League, after a scoreless draw with Shakhtar in which Sudakov missed a penalty, they followed up with two losses, 0-2 to both Liverpool and Aston Villa.

AC Milan spent recent years under Stefano Pioli, who restored the club to its position among the giants of Italian football, even winning a Scudetto. Last season, they finished in 2nd place, but by spring, it was announced that Pioli’s time was over. The club management chose Paulo Fonseca as his replacement and completed several signings, with Morata leading the list. However, Milan’s start to the season was so rocky that by August, there were already rumors of Fonseca’s dismissal. Just before the derby, there was talk of parting ways with him. However, the Rossoneri defeated Inter and then demolished Lecce. Yet the losses returned — to Bayer in the Champions League and even to Fiorentina in Serie A. Following the international break, though, they picked up momentum, winning without conceding against Udinese (despite playing much of the match with 10 men) and Brugge.
The Rossoblù last won against Milan in 2016. However, in their five most recent encounters, they managed to earn three draws with the Rossoneri. The hosts haven’t looked convincing enough. We’re backing the red-and-blacks to take the win in this match.
Prediction for the match: AC Milan to win.
