Besiktas take on the visitors Galatasaray in the round 29 match of Turkish Super Lig. The match will be played on Saturday, March 29th at Tupras Stadium (Istanbul).
Beşiktaş is changing coaches again mid-season. The Black Eagles were known for a scandalous squad overhaul in the 2023/24 campaign when they outright dismissed several foreign players during the first half of the season. As a result, they finished lower in the league standings than expected for a club of their stature, but they did manage to win the Turkish Cup. In the summer, they seemingly strengthened well, including bringing in Ciro Immobile. Giovanni van Bronckhorst was hired as head coach, and his tenure started with a stunning 5-0 Super Cup win over Galatasaray. However, by winter, the Dutchman was sacked. In mid-January, Ole Gunnar Solskjær took over, and overall, the club has been satisfied with his work. However, recent setbacks have been concerning, as they suffered back-to-back losses against Gaziantep and Konyaspor, falling further behind third place with little time left to recover. If their form doesn’t improve quickly, their European qualification hopes could be in serious jeopardy.

Galatasaray have had a mixed season with plenty of disappointments along the way. They have already suffered several major setbacks this campaign. Besides the mentioned 5-0 humiliation in the Super Cup, they were eliminated early from the Champions League qualifiers by struggling Swiss side Young Boys. More recently, they crashed out of the Europa League playoffs against AZ Alkmaar. That leaves them with only domestic competitions to focus on—most notably, the Süper Lig, where Okan Buruk’s men, champions in 2023 and 2024, once again sit at the top. February ended with a draw against Fenerbahçe, followed by another slip-up against Kasımpaşa, but they quickly bounced back with wins over Alanyaspor and Antalyaspor. They remain unbeaten in the league and currently hold a nine-point lead over their closest rivals with 71 points. However, Fenerbahçe has a game in hand and will be eager to close the gap, while José Mourinho will be hoping the leaders slip up in this crucial derby.
Following their Super Cup humiliation, Galatasaray responded with a 2-1 league victory, marking their third win in the last four meetings against their historic rivals. It’s hard to see Solskjær’s side stopping the reigning champions, even with home advantage—back the visitors to win.
Prediction for the match: Galatasaray to win.
