The curtain falls on German football with a blockbuster DFB-Pokal final, as Bayern Munich and Stuttgart renew their rivalry for the fourth time this season in Berlin.
On paper, it is difficult to look beyond Bayern.
Vincent Kompany’s first season in charge could hardly have gone better domestically. Bayern stormed back to the top of German football, reclaiming the Bundesliga title while producing numbers that bordered on absurd. Their attack was relentless from start to finish, racking up 120 league goals and overwhelming opponents with constant movement, pace, and ruthless finishing. Even in the final weeks of the campaign, the Bavarians never eased off, signing off in the Bundesliga with a dominant 5-1 dismantling of Cologne.
Their route to the Pokal final was equally convincing. Bayern brushed aside Wehen, Cologne, Union Berlin, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen, consistently showing the depth and firepower that made them the most feared side in the country once again.

Stuttgart, meanwhile, deserve huge praise for another impressive campaign under Sebastian Hoeneß. A return to the Champions League places and a run to the cup final mark clear progress for the Swabians. Yet there is also a sense that they arrive here as clear underdogs, especially given the contrast in quality whenever they faced elite opposition this season.
No team exposed Stuttgart’s defensive issues more brutally than Bayern. Across three meetings in all competitions, Munich won every match and piled up an emphatic 11-3 aggregate scoreline. Stuttgart simply struggled to cope with Bayern’s intensity and attacking combinations, often being stretched apart once the game opened up.
With another trophy now within touching distance, Bayern have every reason to stay fully focused. Finals between these sides have recently delivered goals, chaos, and entertainment — and this one could follow the same script.
