Borussia Dortmund clearly made a mistake appointing Nuri Şahin in the summer. The former club midfielder nearly led the side to collapse before being replaced in time by Niko Kovač. The Croatian has indeed steadied the team, guiding them back up to fourth place in the Bundesliga table. However, in other competitions — notably the Champions League and later the Club World Cup — results have been disappointing. Kovač’s side is improving in terms of structure and pressing intensity, but their defense still looks vulnerable against top-tier opposition. Offensively, thye are dangerous, yet the team often struggles to convert dominance into decisive goals.
The champions haven’t won a “Der Klassiker” since 2023! In fact, it was Borussia who won in the spring of last year, followed by two consecutive draws. It’s about time for Kimmich and company to defeat their old rivals again. The hosts should prevail here — and given their form, backing Bayern with a -1.5 goals handicap looks like the right call.
