Bayer Leverkusen take on the visitors Eintracht Frankfurt in the round 3 match of German Bundesliga. The match will be played on Friday, September 12th at BayArena (Leverkusen).
Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso reached the top, winning their first-ever Bundesliga title and adding the domestic cup to the “silver salad bowl.” However, that was two seasons ago, and even with the Spaniard there was a predictable drop afterward — though only down to second place. This summer, the young coach left and the squad was reshuffled, with top players including Florian Wirtz departing. Erik ten Hag clearly struggled with this challenge. He only managed a 4–0 cup win against a very weak opponent. In the Bundesliga, Erik began with a 1–2 home defeat to TSG Hoffenheim and then, despite leading 2–0 and 3–1, were held to a draw by Werder Bremen. As a result, the club parted ways with the Dutchman, and according to reports, he had fallen out with almost everyone, with transfers like Vazquez being signed without consulting him. Now we’ll see how Leverkusen fare after this change at the helm. Leverkusen have looked disorganized defensively and lacked fluidity in attack in their opening matches. The pressure will be on the interim coach to stabilize the team quickly before they fall further behind in the standings.

Eintracht Frankfurt are managing to cope with challenges. The “Eagles” have shown a knack for finding quality players almost for free and then selling them at a huge profit — while still getting strong results thanks to these rising stars. Omar Marmoush was the standout last season, and even after the Egyptian left in January, the club didn’t drop off and eventually finished 3rd in the Bundesliga. This summer they sold Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool FC for €95 million. Still, his replacement Ritsu Doan is already scoring (though there were bigger hopes for Jonathan Burkardt, who got injured) and helping the team start with wins — not only in the cup against lowly FV Engers 07, but also in the league, interestingly against both Werder and Hoffenheim. Frankfurt’s attack has looked sharp and their pressing structure solid in the early games. They appear well-prepared and confident, which could make them dangerous opponents even away from home.
A 4–1 win in March was the fifth consecutive victory for the “Pharmacists” in head-to-head matches against this opponent. The vice-champions are still slightly favored to win at home. However, based on how the teams have started the season, we believe the visitors will not lose this match.
Prediction for the match: Eintracht not to lose (X2).
