Barcelona take on the visitors Mallorca in the round 33 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Tuesday, April 22nd at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (Barcelona).
Barcelona, under Xavi, ended their silverware drought in 2023 by first winning the Supercopa and then, more importantly, La Liga. But in the following season, they failed to make any meaningful progress. As a result, even the legendary player couldn’t hold on to the job — but was replaced by an experienced coach who immediately made a difference. Now, the Culés are within reach of a historic treble. In the Champions League, they've already reached the semifinals. In the previous round, after a 4-0 home win over Borussia, they suffered a 1-3 defeat in Dortmund — but still advanced. Domestically, they demolished Real Madrid in the winter Supercopa final, earning Hansi his first trophy with the club, and they’re aiming to do it again in the upcoming Copa del Rey final. The title race in La Liga remains tight, with Real Madrid still pushing, but Barcelona kept pace thanks to a late penalty winner against Celta in the last round. Despite fatigue and squad rotation, their resilience has kept them in all three competitions.

Mallorca also changed their coach last summer. The Bermellones owe much to their previous manager, Aguirre. He took charge when the team, known as a “yo-yo club,” looked destined for relegation. Expectations were low, with many assuming Javier would lead them back up from the Segunda — but he managed to avoid the drop and eventually stabilize the side in mid-table. Last season, league results remained modest, but they made a historic Copa del Rey run, matching their best-ever performance by reaching the final — though they ultimately lost. Aguirre was replaced this summer by Jagoba Arrasate, who had impressed with Osasuna. Under him, Mallorca crashed out of the Copa early after a 0-3 loss to Pontevedra, and were also thrashed by Real Madrid in the Supercopa. In La Liga, however, they showed enough fight to climb into the race for 7th place. But inconsistency remains a concern — their goalless draw with bottom side Leganés in the last round was a missed opportunity. They struggle against top teams, especially away from home, and that pattern has persisted this season.
Since 2011, in their last 14 meetings, the Catalans have always beaten the islanders — with the only exception being a 2-2 draw in Mallorca back in September two seasons ago. It's time for Yamal and company to show their class after a string of underwhelming displays. We expect a confident win with a -1.5 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: Barcelona to win with -1.5 handicap.
