Atletico Madrid take on the visitors Valladolid in the round 31 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Monday, April 14th at Metropolitano Stadium (Madrid).
Atletico had a rather mediocre campaign last season. They did finish ahead of Athletic in La Liga but ended up behind Girona, taking only 4th place. That prompted a major squad overhaul in the summer — parting ways with several long-time players, including Morata, and bringing in a number of pricey new signings. Initially, it looked like a bold step forward, as Atletico were in contention for a treble by mid-season. But the dream crumbled in spring. They were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on penalties and eliminated from the Copa del Rey after a 0-1 loss in the second leg against Barcelona (following a 4-4 draw in Catalonia). League form also dipped, and a series of slip-ups left them trailing the top three. They did manage to beat Sevilla in the last round — but only thanks to a stoppage-time winner.

Valladolid look completely out of place at this level. The Pucelanos have never been considered serious contenders. Recently, they’ve turned into a classic yo-yo club, bouncing between La Liga and Segunda. Still, each time they dropped down, Ronaldo’s project found a way to bounce straight back up — as they did last season. Unfortunately, their latest return to the top flight has been a disaster. Even compared to past attempts, this version of Valladolid looks even weaker. Coaching changes have only worsened the situation, and since winter the already struggling side has lost the vast majority of its matches, sinking deeper into the relegation zone. In 2025, their only highlights have been a win over Betis and a draw against Las Palmas — whom they now trail by ten points. Last round, they suffered a heavy defeat even against the ultra-defensive Getafe.
Valladolid famously beat Atletico twice during the 2008/2009 season. Since then, however, they've managed just one draw in over 15 meetings. Earlier this season, Atletico demolished the newly promoted side 5-0 away, with Griezmann leading the charge. With an opponent like this — and at home — Cholo’s team won’t hold back. Expect a dominant win from the capital giants, covering a -2.0 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: Atletico Madrid to win with -2.0 handicap.
