Atletico Madrid are clearly no longer fully focused on La Liga. “Los Colchoneros” have been under Diego Simeone for a very long time now. However, major trophies have not arrived for years, and two seasons ago they even finished below Girona FC in the league, ending up fourth. Everything now points toward a similar outcome, with Villarreal CF looking consistently strong, while Atlético themselves have dropped too many points, especially during the spring. Even so, they did manage to beat both Athletic Club and Valencia CF in recent weeks, showing that the team can still raise its level for big domestic fixtures. Their defensive approach remains effective, but the overall intensity has noticeably declined compared to the first half of the campaign. It is obvious, though, that other competitions became the priority. In the Copa del Rey they eliminated FC Barcelona in the semi-finals and reached the final, only to lose on penalties to Real Sociedad. They repeated the same trick against Barça in the UEFA Champions League, but in the semi-final against Arsenal FC, in a predictably cautious and defensive tie, they scored one goal fewer than the opponent: 1-1 at home and 0-1 in London on Tuesday.

Celta Vigo spent many years battling against relegation. A little more than two years ago, Claudio Giráldez arrived with the task of keeping the club in the top flight. After succeeding in 2024, he then guided the team all the way to 7th place the following season. That achievement even brought them back into the UEFA Europa League. There, the Spaniards reached the quarter-finals before losing both matches against SC Freiburg. Celta’s away form has improved noticeably in recent months, with the team becoming much more disciplined and pragmatic on the road. Even during difficult stretches, they have continued to create chances regularly and rarely look completely outplayed. At the same time in La Liga, after a shaky start, the Vigo side improved significantly and managed not only to repeat but even surpass their achievements from 2024/2025. Still, they also experienced a dip in form during the spring. Only in the latest round, against Elche CF — who themselves had recently improved with a series of strong performances — did they finally return to winning ways, and quite convincingly too, with a 3-1 victory.
After seven consecutive wins for “Cholo Team,” both meetings in 2025 ended in draws, both finishing 1-1. This match is unlikely to be especially entertaining. The hosts spent huge energy in England without success, while the visitors would probably be more than satisfied with a draw. Backing under 3.0 total goals looks like the best option here.
