Atalanta take on the visitors Lazio in the semifinal match of Coppa Italia. The match will be played on Wednesday, April 22nd at New Balance Arena (Bergamo).
Atalanta became accustomed to consistent achievements during the tenure of Gian Piero Gasperini, but the coach left the project in the summer. That makes the cup even more important, where they have already confidently eliminated Genoa CFC and Juventus, and secured a draw in Rome.

Lazio can only save their season in this competition. “The Eagles” finished 7th last season, losing out to ACF Fiorentina only on tiebreakers with equal points. However, because Bologna FC won the cup, Lazio did not even qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. They brought back Maurizio Sarri to fix the situation, but despite his previous success, progress has been limited. Recently, though, their form has improved, with the team showing better organization and confidence in matches. They have started picking up points more consistently, especially against strong opponents. Even so, a top-seven finish in Serie A still looks unlikely, despite a stronger spring run. In the latest round, they secured a convincing 2–0 win over SSC Napoli. Still, they remain below Atalanta in the standings. In the cup, however, Lazio impressed by eliminating AC Milan and then knocking out the holders Bologna on penalties.
In the last five encounters, both sides have one win each, with both victories coming away from home. The visitors may be underestimated here, especially given their improved form compared to their opponent’s inconsistency. Lazio look capable of keeping this close — backing the Rome side with a +1 handicap appears to be the right option.
