Atalanta take on the visitors Chelsea
in the round 6 match of UEFA Champions League – League Phase. The match will be played on Tuesday, December 9th at New Balance Arena (Bergamo).
Atalanta are trying to rebuild as they attempt to correct their summer mistake. La Dea have long been associated with Gasperini, the coach who made them, if not a great club, then certainly a strong and respected one. Gian Piero also secured third place in last season’s Serie A… but as he announced in advance, he decided to leave the project. He was replaced by Ivan Jurić who, just as he did at Roma and Southampton last season, quickly disappointed. Although in the Champions League things looked relatively promising — yes, they started with a painful 0–4, but away at PSG. Then they stumbled against Slavia, failing to score and settling for a goalless draw. But they were able to take maximum points against Brugge at home and Marseille away. And the new manager, Palladino, earned his first victory precisely in Frankfurt — a 3–0 win over Eintracht. Recent domestic performances, however, remain inconsistent, showing that the transition to a new tactical approach is far from complete. Atalanta continue to alternate between convincing wins and sudden dips, suggesting that stability is still a work in progress.

Chelsea turned to Maresca after several disappointing spells under previous coaches. There were doubts, as he had never worked at such a level before. Yet in his debut season Enzo not only returned his team to the Premier League top four, but also delivered new trophies — first the Europa Conference League, then the Club World Cup. And even now, despite a long injury list (Palmer even managed to break a finger at home shortly after returning!), they remain one of Arsenal’s most persistent chasers in the domestic campaign. In the Champions League, they already have three wins — in the last matchday they even demolished Barcelona 3–0. Still, it is worth remembering the tournament started with a 1–3 loss to Bayern that exposed painful errors, and in November they were held to a 2–2 draw in Baku by Qarabag. Chelsea’s momentum shows that they are capable of dominating opponents when everything clicks, but concentration lapses still surface unexpectedly. Their recent form suggests a team with high potential, yet prone to swings that make them slightly unpredictable from match to match.
This match in Bergamo will be the first-ever meeting between the clubs. La Dea have only just begun their rebuild under a new manager. The English side should be able to win against such an opponent.
Prediction for the match: Chelsea to win.
