Atalanta take on the visitors in the round 36 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Monday, April 12th at Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo.
Atalanta have left a rather mixed impression this season. La Dea have been under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini for years now. He transformed the club from a mid-table side into a consistent contender for top positions. After a short dip in form, he once again guided them to the top four in 2023/24. Although they lost the Coppa Italia final to Juventus, that disappointment was more than offset by a strong Serie A campaign and, most notably, a Europa League title triumph. This season, however, there are growing rumours that Gasperini might leave — if not this summer, then in 2026. That speculation is fueled by a string of setbacks in 2025: a 0-2 defeat to Inter in the Supercoppa, a home loss to Bologna in the Coppa Italia, and a dismal Champions League playoff exit to Club Brugge (1-2 away, 1-3 at home). Serie A form has also been inconsistent, but they held on to third place into May. In their most recent match, they comfortably beat Monza 4-0, showing signs of resurgence.

Roma had been underachieving for a while. José Mourinho started well, lifting the Conference League, but a penalty shootout loss in the Europa League final and a lack of progress in Serie A eventually cost him his job — and De Rossi, who replaced him, fared no better. De Rossi was dismissed early in the new season after a series of disappointing results. Ivan Jurić took over but quickly lost the dressing room, piling up defeats and clashing with players. Roma then turned to Claudio Ranieri for a steady hand, and he has delivered. Although they exited both the Coppa Italia and Europa League early, their domestic form under the veteran manager has significantly improved. By May, Roma were back in contention for European qualification and even had a realistic shot at a Champions League place. Their narrow 1-0 win over Fiorentina was a crucial step toward that goal.
Roma have struggled in this fixture recently, losing four of the last five meetings. Their only positive result in that span was a draw in January last year. Atalanta are understandably the favorites at home. But given the momentum and stability Roma have shown under Ranieri, the visitors are capable of avoiding defeat.
Prediction for the match: Roma to win with +0.5 handicap (Double chance: draw or Roma win).
