AS Roma take on the visitors Monza in the round 26 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Monday, February 24th at Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Roma finished last season only in sixth place in Serie A and once again fell short in the Europa League semifinals. However, in the summer, expectations for Daniele De Rossi were high, and the signing of players like Artem Dovbyk reflected those ambitions. That said, De Rossi was dismissed after the first major setbacks, and under Ivan Jurić, the situation quickly became critical. Experienced Claudio Ranieri, who interrupted his retirement for a third stint in Rome, managed to stabilize things relatively quickly. With him in charge, Roma advanced to the Europa League knockout stage. Against Porto, they secured progress with a home win following a draw in Portugal. In the Coppa Italia, however, Milan proved too strong, winning 3-1. Meanwhile, in Serie A, the gap to the top seven kept shrinking. Most recently, they secured a crucial victory against Parma, keeping their European hopes alive. With renewed momentum, Roma is looking to push even higher in the standings.

Monza seems to have accepted its fate. The Biancorossi were the final footballing project of Silvio Berlusconi. The controversial billionaire lived to see his team debut in Serie A, and even after his passing, the club performed well last season—thanks largely to Raffaele Palladino, who, despite his inexperience, proved to be a capable coach. However, in the summer, Fiorentina lured him away. His replacement, Alessandro Nesta, a far more renowned former player, struggled and was eventually dismissed in winter. His successor, Salvatore Bocchetti, managed one win but failed to improve the team’s fortunes overall. Things got so bad that Monza reversed the decision, bringing Nesta back. They did, however, complete the signing of Keita Baldé, whom Bocchetti had invited for a trial. After the coaching change, they managed to avoid defeat against Lecce, playing out a goalless draw—though that result did little to strengthen their survival chances. With the team still unable to find consistency, relegation seems more and more inevitable.
In five meetings against Roma, Monza has managed two draws, including a 1-1 result earlier this season in October. At home, Roma should win comfortably. Back the Wolves with a -1.5 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: AS Roma to win with -1.5 handicap.
