Arsenal take on the visitors Newcastle in the round 34 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Saturday, April 25th at Emirates Stadium (London).
Arsenal have undoubtedly improved under Mikel Arteta, but despite that progress they have remained runners-up since 2023, and the lack of trophies has been increasingly frustrating. This season, the London side were even chasing a potential quadruple. Their recent form, however, has been inconsistent, with the team dropping points at crucial moments. They have still shown strong attacking play, but results have not always matched their performances. Before the spring international break, they lost the League Cup final to Manchester City, and after the restart they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton FC from the Championship. The Champions League remained, where they faced Sporting CP in the quarter-finals, winning 1–0 in Lisbon and then securing a goalless draw at home to advance. In the Premier League, they had been keeping City and the rest at a distance, but the last round proved decisive — a direct clash with Pep Guardiola’s side ended in defeat, leaving the teams level on points and shifting the balance in the title race.

Newcastle have once again declined after a successful season. “The Magpies” have clearly improved under Eddie Howe, but they continue to follow a pattern of regression after strong campaigns. This has been evident in their recent results, where consistency has been lacking. They have struggled to maintain the same level of performance that brought them success previously. After regrouping, they won the League Cup in 2025 and edged Aston Villa out of 5th place on goal difference, earning a return to the Champions League. This time they reached the playoffs, but in the round of 16 faced FC Barcelona and were eliminated after a heavy 2–7 defeat in Catalonia following a home draw. Domestically, they had a decent League Cup run but lost in the semi-finals while trying to defend their title. In the Premier League, however, they quickly began dropping points and settled into mid-table. In the latest round, they were defeated by AFC Bournemouth.
Both of the last official meetings in 2025 ended in victories for Arsenal. Arsenal have struggled this spring, but they cannot afford another slip. Backing the hosts to win with a -1 handicap looks like the right choice.
Prediction for the match: Arsenal to win with -1.0 handicap.
