Arsenal take on the visitors Manchester United in the round 23 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Sunday, January 25th at Emirates Stadium (London).
Arsenal have led the way before during their battles with Manchester City, but ultimately finished second — as they did last season, this time behind Liverpool. Now, however, it seems that Arteta has prepared his team even better, despite constant injury issues and despite the main summer signing failing to fully meet expectations as a prolific scorer. Even so, Arsenal have been successful across almost all competitions. In the cup, they thrashed Portsmouth, and shortly after that secured a win against Chelsea in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final. This week, having won every Champions League match so far, they claimed a fifth consecutive victory against Inter. Most importantly, during the hectic winter period in the Premier League, they managed to extend their lead over the chasing pack. Liverpool managed to hold them to a goalless draw, and the same result followed against Nottingham Forest, although their rivals dropped points altogether. Arsenal’s recent results underline their consistency and control in tight matches. They are increasingly effective at protecting leads and grinding out results when needed.

Manchester United are once again trying to find their way. The "Red Devils" have repeatedly shown faith in their managers, only to dismiss them later on. During last season, ten Hag was removed, and under Ruben Amorim the team eventually slipped all the way down to 15th place in the Premier League. Yes, the Europa League was clearly prioritized, especially in the spring, but even there they fell short, losing the final 0-1 to Tottenham. The new season began with fresh setbacks, highlighted by a shock League Cup elimination at the hands of fourth-division Grimsby. Amorim later steadied things somewhat and was even named Premier League Manager of the Month. However, by 2026 wins again became hard to come by, and after a 1-1 draw with Leeds, another dismissal followed. That change did not immediately help, as they failed to beat relegation-threatened Burnley, drawing 2-2, and then lost to Brighton in the cup. Ahead of the derby with Manchester City, Carrick was appointed until the summer and immediately delivered a 2-0 victory. United’s performances remain unpredictable, swinging sharply from poor results to impressive one-off wins. Their lack of stability continues to make long-term progress difficult.
In the last six official meetings, the "Gunners" recorded four wins and two draws. However, in the cup at the start of 2025, after a 1-1 draw, Manchester United advanced on penalties. The league leaders are playing at home. The "Gunners" should be able to beat their old rivals on their own ground.
Prediction for the match: Arsenal to win.
