Argentinos Juniors take on the visitors Belgrano in the round 15 match of Argentine Torneo Betano – Cluasura. The match will be played on Tuesday, November 11th at Estadio Diego Armando Maradona (Buenos Aires).
Argentinos Juniors risk collapsing at the end of the season. The Red Bugs reached their peak in the mid-1980s, when they twice became national champions and won both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Interamericana. But afterward, their only major success came in the 2010 Clausura, and later they even slipped down to the second division. Last season was another modest showing — 23rd out of 28 teams (although they finished 14th in the overall table, just short of the Copa Sudamericana zone). In the Apertura, however, the club topped their group, though they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by San Lorenzo. Even now, despite losing their leading position, they still seem well-placed to qualify for the playoff stage. Moreover, the national cup has clearly been their main priority. In the final against Independiente Rivadavia, they came back from 0-2 down but ultimately lost in the penalty shootout. Recently, Argentinos Juniors have struggled to maintain consistency, dropping points in several matches they were expected to win. Fatigue and pressure appear to be taking their toll, and the team’s defensive stability has also begun to waver toward the end of the campaign.

Belgrano are far more modest in terms of achievements compared to their current rivals. Having earned promotion to the Primera just a few years ago, they finished last season in the lower half of the table, in 16th place. In the Apertura, they collected only 17 points from 16 matches — clearly not enough for playoff qualification. Now, however, they again face the risk of missing out on the top eight in their group. Still, their form has improved noticeably in recent months, helping them close the gap on the leading pack. In the last round, though, they were held to a goalless draw by Tigre. Belgrano have shown resilience in tight matches lately, often managing to earn results even when under pressure. Their recent defensive improvements suggest they could frustrate stronger opponents, particularly away from home.
The hosts defeated the Sky Blues in the semifinal of this year’s cup. Before that, in four previous encounters, each team had one win to their name. The hosts are considered favorites, but it’s difficult to recover both physically and mentally after a lost final. We believe the visitors can manage a result here — bet on Belgrano “not to lose.”
