Apollon take on the visitors Pafos in the Cyprus Cup Semifinals. The match will be played on Wednesday, April 7th at Alphamega Stadium (Kolossi).
Apollon could afford to focus solely on the cup this spring. The “Legend” became champions of Cyprus in 2022, claiming the title for the fourth time in their history. However, their form declined noticeably afterward. Last season, while also competing in the Conference League qualifiers, the popular team finished only seventh domestically. This time, they at least managed to squeeze into the top six at the end of the regular season. However, their performance in the championship group has been underwhelming, with wins coming few and far between. On the other hand, in the cup they’ve already knocked out three opponents, including a convincing 3-1 away win over Anorthosis in the quarterfinals — a side that, ironically, finished right behind them in seventh place and is now flourishing in the relegation group. Apollon’s domestic league form has continued to stagnate, failing to win in four consecutive matches. They also lost the first leg of the semifinal 2-4, putting themselves in a tough position ahead of the return leg.

Pafos are a relatively young project, founded in 2014 — still a newcomer even by Cypriot standards. Under their current owner, Roman Dubov, the club has steadily grown, and last year Juan Carlos Carcedo guided them to their first-ever major trophy by winning the national cup. Despite finishing only fifth in the league, that triumph secured them a place in European competition. Although they were knocked out early in the Europa League by Elfsborg, they impressed in the Conference League by advancing from the group stage straight into the Round of 16. There, however, they once again fell to Swedish opposition, this time against Djurgården in March. Domestically, Pafos were league leaders for a while, but a packed schedule and mounting fatigue have led to a dip in form. They have now won just once in their last five league fixtures. This drop in performance has allowed Aris to seriously challenge them in the title race.
Pafos are unbeaten in their last 14 official matches against Apollon. Moreover, they have won each of the last four meetings. The outcome of the tie seems all but decided, but the visitors still look capable of sealing another victory away from home. Back Pafos with a “draw no bet” option.
Prediction for the match: Pafos to win with 0.0 handicap.
