Alaves take on the visitors Villareal in the round 28 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Friday, March 13th at Estadio Mendizorrotza (Vitoria-Gasteiz).
Alavés still cannot afford to relax. The Bean Destroyers have rarely stood out for anything memorable, although there have been some decent and bright stretches from time to time. Now the situation is somewhat different: a certain stability has arrived, when the team collects relatively few points, but at the same time enough to remain in La Liga. Recently their results have remained fairly cautious, with the team often focusing on securing points rather than playing risky football. Even so, they have occasionally struggled against direct rivals, which keeps them under constant pressure in the lower part of the table. They also retained their place in the top division a year ago, when they finished 15th with 42 points, ahead on tiebreakers. And now they are not aiming for anything bigger, although in the Copa del Rey they reached the quarterfinals, where they narrowly lost to Real Sociedad. In La Liga, despite losing about half of their matches, they still manage to keep some distance from the relegation zone. Moreover, in the latest rounds they even lost to the newly promoted outsider Levante, not to mention Valencia, who clearly have no intention of going down.

Villarreal finished 5th last season and thanks to that returned to the Champions League. There, however, things went badly: after snatching a late draw against Juventus, the Spaniards lost all the remaining matches. At the same time, their recent domestic form has been relatively solid, as they continue to collect points in important league games. Villarreal have also looked confident against mid-table opposition, which helps them remain firmly in the race near the top of the standings. In parallel, even before the New Year, they were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by such a modest opponent as Racing Santander. However, it seemed that all of this was simply sacrificed to preserve more energy for La Liga, where they managed to challenge Atlético. In 2026 there were still enough slip-ups there — but the Madrid side were also far from perfect. Against the leader and champion Barcelona, however, nothing worked out. But afterward Elche were defeated — and the race for 3rd place continues at full speed.
Last season the teams exchanged home victories. And in January, continuing this trend, The Yellow Submarine secured a 3–1 home win. It is hard to see how the hosts will even manage to hold on for a draw here. The bet here is that The Yellow Submarine will get the maximum from the match and secure the victory.
Prediction for the match: Villarreal to win.
