Moreover, in the latest rounds they even lost to the newly promoted outsider Levante, not to mention Valencia, who clearly have no intention of going down.

Villarreal finished 5th last season and thanks to that returned to the Champions League. There, however, things went badly: after snatching a late draw against Juventus, the Spaniards lost all the remaining matches. But afterward Elche were defeated — and the race for 3rd place continues at full speed.
